February 2010, I have recently withdrawn from the Kennel Club Accredited Breeder Scheme. To me the Scheme is flawed, and also misleads people who are looking for a puppy.

For example, Under the KC Accredited Breeder Scheme,providing a dog has been hip scored the Kennel Club will register any puppies born to this dog REGARDLESS of the hip score, as well as registering many puppies from parents who are not health tested and whose owners are not members of the KC Accredited Breeder Scheme. The breed average is a total of 19, as quoted by the B.V.A, (the perfect hip score being ZERO on each hip). There are examples of puppies being registered from parents who have hip score totals of upto and above 50 !!!

A dog who has a hip score total this high is NOT suitable to be bred from in MY opinion, but in the eyes of the Kennel Club it is, because it HAS been hip scored.

AND THIS IS JUST THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG !

Our puppies will still be registered with the Kennel Club, but our own standards will remain much higher than those the Kennel Club expect us to maintain.
